Worlds 2019: Lille (France) - 11th, 12th and 13th of October
Posted: Tue Jun 04, 2019 9:06 pm
Dear fellow meccg players, several council members asked us whether the French community could arrange Worlds 2019.
I am delighted to confirm that we indeed propose to organise Worlds 2019 in Lille from Friday, 11th of October to Sunday, 13th.
Lille is a great location for the Worlds for a number of reasons:
- Accessibility by car for French, Benelux and quite a few German players: 3 hours to Köln or Amsterdam, less than 2 hours to Paris
- proximity to 3 low cost airports (Lille, Brussels, Charleroi). In particular, Ryanair flies to 25 countries from Charleroi and there is usually a cheap Ryanair bus between Lille and the airport (a number of German cars are also likely to drive by the airport).
- proximity to several major Airports (London, Paris, Brussels) for our non-European friends who can organise a holiday in London and/or Paris combined with the Worlds
- much cheaper accomodation that in Paris
- Northern France is renowned for its beers and food
- Lille is a beautiful city and also offers great shopping opportunities if you plan to come with your partner (sorry for the stereotype )
***** Venue *******
Edit 20/08/19: it looks like the venue has been secured. We will play in a medieval cellar in the historical centre of Lille (« le vieux lille ») called « la cave des celestines ». A nice one to follow last year’s castle.

I would also like to highlight that the event will really be beginner-friendly. quite a few people would probably like to come to the Worlds but do not feel like building competitive decks. So we will run quite a few events including more casual ones in parallel ot the main tourney. 10 French players have already confirmed their attendance and it will be the first Worlds for most of them. So if you have never attended Meccg Worlds, this is a great opportunity.
The only thing that we really need from you at this stage is that you let us know asap whether you plan to attend as we have several possible venues in mind with different capacity. The sooner we get a rough estimate of the numbers, the better (and the cheaper the Ryanair flights for you ). So please post on this thread if you plan to attend.
