My computer is having some trouble with the sound and I still have to fix this at some point. However, gccg will not even start up if I do not have a functioning audio device.
I there some change that I can make in the program, so I can play even though I do not have sound?

I sometimes too have a problem with a crashing GCCG due to an error with a sound driver (don't know the complete error text message)...
Try using "/set nosound yes". This should turn in-game sound off...

I put in an old, not totally functioning sound card. So I still do not have sound, but at least it is not complaining anymore.

You can also use the '--nosounds' flag on the command line.
Indeed, if the sounds engine initialization fails, gccg will throw an error and exit.
This behavior could be changed so that the game keeps running without sounds.
