I'm not entirely sure but I believe some "rewrite" cards are hosted at https://cardgamegeek.com/games/meccg/cards
Yeah, found them. Thanks!

Germanico wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 11:06 am But i am doing a kind of spin off of the game and i stumbled upon this great thread....
Are you hoping that existing MECCG plays would play your spinoff game? Are you going to print and distribute the cards?
Yes, yes and probably not.
CDavis7M wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 5:01 pm I feel like most of these "projects", including this Rewrite, failed because it was not easy for people to play updates. But it is also not legally feasible to re-print and distribute the original cards. So any spinoff game would have to lose it's Middle-earth references, and that would not be encouraging for new players. So... we are stuck with the cards we have and a long history of failed projects.
Well...yes.
I have a little group of old time players.
Im not very ambitious. I dont want my game to be that official.
Having said that, my plan is to:
Have proper MSE reworked templates (DONE)
Have a way to playtest them for balancing (DONE, gccg updates are working for this)
Property rights.....well....i have to admit that i dont plan to distribute this. (unless someone is really interested in having a private copy). Im using IPR protected images and references, yes. But it is for myself; it is definately shady...illegal to put it in plain words.
CDavis7M wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 5:01 pm Even in this thread you can see mention of the "Virtual" cards project. This project used the same card names but changed their effects to do completely different things. From what I can tell, no one actually plays with Virtual cards. Maybe at one point they did but it's not evident now. There was also the Unofficial Errata Project (UEP) (or something like that). It proposed minor changes to improve simulation and a bit of balance. This also failed. Likewise, no one plays with these Rewrite cards. There are too many rule changes for people that already know how to play the game. And it's not clear whether the game really is more balanced or not. Sure it's nice to have simplified rules but ICE already provided two different shortened versions of the rules. The Starter Set rules cover 90% of game play in 4 pages and Challenge Deck rules cover 95% of game play in 27 pages.

The one project that has persevered if the Dream Card project: viewforum.php?f=32

The Dream Cards (DC) have had some success. But it's not like all MECCG players play with them. It's hard to guess why this project succeeded when other projects failed. But the cards are completely new and they fit into the existing game. They have also been made easily available for home-printing and a portion of them have been professionally printed. The Dream Cards have a Players Guide complete with lore and strategy and sample decks. It just feels like a complete project. It feels like a regular expansion set.

Good luck with your project. I'd love to see the spinoff.
Yes, i know the dreamcards for a long time.
I dont have the answer to why they succeeded where the other did not. I think it is mainly due to some groups resistance to change.
At least in the Spanish comunity, there is a high percentage of hardcore collectors....very reluctant to any modifications.
I think you have to understand your playgroup, and if you find the right people ...you may achieve some success.

In my case, im trying to "officialise" the drinking game.
I like the game because it is fun. And i saw a fun oportunity when, to my knowledge, no one had attempted to "write" them down in a proper set.
This idea took me to the next one, and so on.

Do you want to know how does it work?
Basically, in the game, you are one of 7 "Brewers". Your objective is to bring peace to Middle Earth by having everyone as drunk as possible so that they get to be friends and live peacefully everafter.
You may win by having the usual MP count (by playing beer mugs, breweries and missions to improve them) OR by playing and taking the "Special Beer" to Sauron and attempt to take him around for some drinks or bringing it to Cirdan with the same idea.

I have reworked all characters (hero and minions) so that they fit the theme.
All the Drinking Game rules appear in different Event cards; with an amount of stage points...which represent how "Drunk" your characters are.

Once you reach a certain amount of points, things happen:
• Some characters get their cards flipped and have a "Drunk" version on the back side of the card, with different stats, skills and weaknesses. (Galadriel gets to be a real party partner.....Beorn goes in bear mode)
• Hero chars. get to be friends with Orcs and Trolls and viceversa.
• All female Characters turn to Hazards....as they are angry because they want you to be home on time (i know....gender equality, but it is fun...you should see Arwen angry ...)
• Dwarven fortresses are Havens if you are really drunk....
And many more things....

Right now, i have plenty of cards and play-test is working out quite good (still a couple of questions to Vastor pending on properly updating GCCG)

So...the game is fun. My group likes them. It is not my primary objective to have everyone playing it....but everyone is welcome to try and play for fun.

BUT....you did not succeed in reqorking the rules....did you?

Thanks for reading!

Sounds fun. I'd love to check it out even though my local group plays at a game convention where we aren't even allowed to bring in coffee from the outside.

Lol...i meant "reworking".
I was wondering if you had any success with your rework attempt.
In our group, we are going to adopt some of the rules you suggested.

I live in Bayern, Germany. Playing without a beer next to me is close to inconceivable.

Germany sounds like a wonderful place 🍻. My drinking buddies don't play cards. Though some of them play Catan. And my wife will have wine over Carcassone. So there's some fun.

Rework? I did write some explanation of the results of the timing rules. I'm happy if the examples are helpful to anyone since some of them come up frequently (Marvels and Daelomin especially). I have had some positive feedback from players. But I'm not looking to rework the rules. I think they were quite fine on September 2, 1999.

I just realised you are not the author of the thread.
The rules rewrite question was for Bandobras Took.
