Create cards, generate sets, prepare decks — and help improve a tool built for the MECCG community.
Hello everyone!
I'd like to introduce a project I've been working on: MECCG Auto Card Editor, a free, non-commercial fan application dedicated to Middle-earth Collectible Card Game.
The goal is to bring several useful tools together in one desktop application, whether you want to regenerate existing cards, prepare the cards needed for a deck, or design your own custom cards and Dream Cards.
The project is still evolving, and I'm sharing it here both to make it available to the community and to invite your feedback.

Test builds are available for Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows 64-bit is the main platform I've been working with.
The installers and distribution are still being tested, so please consider this an evolving project rather than a completely finished product.
WHAT CAN IT DO?
1. Generate complete card sets
The application can generate cards directly from its MECCG database.
You can:
- Select official expansions or available Dream Card sets.
- Filter cards by expansion, type and alignment.
- Generate a complete set, a limited selection, or an individual card.
- Search for cards by name or identifier.
- Export cards as high-resolution PNG images (750 × 1050 pixels) or editable SVG files.
- Generate cards in French, English and, where supported, Spanish.
2. Build and export decks
The deck section lets you prepare the cards required for a specific deck.
It supports:
- Creating deck lists directly from the card database.
- Importing existing lists in supported text, deck and CSV formats.
- Organising cards into deck, pool, sideboard, site deck and other supported sections.
- Editing quantities, searching, sorting and filtering.
- Saving deck lists for later use.
- Generating only the cards needed for a selected deck.
3. Create your own cards and Dream Cards
This is probably the most creative part of the application.
A visual editor allows you to design your own MECCG cards while working directly with the card preview.
It supports the main card families:
- Characters
- Resources
- Hazards
- Sites
You can also:
- Import and crop your own artwork.
- Edit different parts of the card by clicking directly on them.
- Use the available MECCG symbols, runes and special marks.
- Customize card backgrounds and graphical layers.
- Create cards in several languages.
- Export the finished result as PNG or editable SVG.
4. A customizable interface
The application also includes several Middle-earth-inspired visual themes, including Gondor, the Shire, Imladris and Moria.
Light and dark modes are available, and the interface supports several languages.
You can also customize the card backgrounds used during generation, allowing you to adapt the output to your own preferences or community projects.
5. Updates and offline use
The initial installation downloads the resources required by the application, including its rendering components. The initial resource download is substantial, so make sure you have enough free disk space.
Once installed, card generation and editing work offline.
The application can also check for new releases and offer updates, with the intention of preserving personal resources and customizations.
BUG REPORTS, FEATURE REQUESTS & COMMUNITY HELP
This is the part where I would especially appreciate your help!
MECCG is a remarkably rich and complex game, with many expansions, languages, special card types and unusual cases.
Even after extensive work and testing, I'm certain there are things I've overlooked.
You might discover a card that renders incorrectly, a missing symbol, an unusual card layout that isn't handled properly, a translation issue, or simply a feature that could make the program more useful.
I've therefore included a feedback system directly inside the application.
You do not need a GitHub account, programming experience, or any technical knowledge to use it.
How to report a bug
1. Open the application.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Open the bug-report / feedback option.
4. Select Bug (or the equivalent label in your interface language).
5. Enter a short title and describe the problem.
6. Click Send.
Your report is sent through the application's feedback service.
The application version and operating system are included with the report, helping me identify the environment in which the problem occurred.
What makes a bug report particularly useful?
You don't need to write a technical report. A few details can make a huge difference:
- What were you trying to do? For example, generate a specific site card.
- What happened? Describe the incorrect result or error message.
- What should have happened? Explain the expected result.
- Can you reproduce it? If so, mention the steps.
- Which card is involved? A card name and identifier can be especially helpful.
How to suggest an improvement
The same tool also allows you to submit feature requests and suggestions.
Simply choose the suggestion option instead of a bug report.
It could be something as small as moving a button or improving a search filter, or something more ambitious, such as supporting an additional card layout or improving the card-creation workflow.
If possible, explain how you would use the proposed feature and why it would help.
Not every suggestion can necessarily be implemented, but every constructive idea is useful.
What kind of help am I looking for?
Absolutely any contribution is welcome.
In particular:
- Testing the application on different computers and operating systems.
- Reporting errors in generated cards or text layouts.
- Identifying missing or incorrect MECCG data.
- Checking terminology and translations.
- Testing unusual cards, expansions and Dream Card designs.
- Suggesting interface and workflow improvements.
- Sharing experience with card artwork, templates and graphical resources.
- Offering technical assistance or development ideas.
In fact, someone who knows the game extremely well and notices a small mistake may be just as helpful as someone who can write code.
And if you'd rather discuss an idea publicly before submitting it, feel free to reply directly to this thread.
I'd like this topic to remain a place for questions, feedback, suggestions and discussion as the project develops.
A LITTLE WORD ABOUT FELLOWSHIP
No single person can know every detail of MECCG, test every possible combination, or imagine every improvement.
But with a little help from fellow players, a project can go much further than it could alone.
THANK YOU!
MECCG has survived for so many years thanks to an extraordinary community of players, collectors, artists, translators and dedicated enthusiasts.
This application is simply my contribution to that ongoing effort.
Special thanks to the Council of Elrond Cards Database and its contributors for maintaining and improving the game's card data. Their work is an important resource for this project.
If you decide to give the application a try, I'd be very interested to hear what you think — whether it's a bug, an idea, a question, or simply your first impressions.
Every bit of help is welcome, and every contribution matters.
Thank you, and may the road go ever on!
