Some short-events creates continous effects, lasting by some time after resolution of event. Most short-events makes actions that cannot be canceled when resolved (discarded cards cannot be returned to hands, returned company cannot be returned back to the new site etc.).
For this reasons cards like Many Sorrows Befall, Twiglight, Blind To The West can target cards played earlier in the same chain of effects. It is otherwise forbidden by general rules.
Leaflock, Tom Bombadil, Great Ship does not contain appropriate text, allowing similar targeting.
Does it mean that Leaflock, Tom Bombadil, Great Ship are limited to canceling only effects of creatures, PE, or short-events that creates continous effects, like effect of Lost in Free Domains?

That's distressing.
Offhand, can effects be canceled even after they are applied?
When does the limit run out on when an effect can be canceled? Can a card target an implemented effect?
It seems that you can cancel effects/actions before they resolve, because otherwise Poisonous Despair would be unable to work, since it must resolve before the influence attempt itself resolves.Poisonous Despair wrote:

Unless he is a Ringwraith, he makes a corruption check modified by -3.

Ok. It seems be true, especially that Noose of the Sea:Bandobras Took wrote:That's distressing.

makes reference (although indirectly) to Great Ship.Affects each company with a Coastal Sea [c] in its site path. The on-going effects of all resource short-events that were played during the organization phase are cancelled for the duration of the movement/hazard phase and the site phase. Such short-events have no effect on this card (i.e., it may not canceled by such a short-event).
Not all effects are implemented to target. Some are lasting by some time and targets is under that effects. For example some enviroment short-events says that site is treated as site of other type - not changed to other site type. If effect is on-going and not implemented, then such effect can be canceled after its resolution (see text of Noose of The Sea). Doors of Night and Gates of Morning says about canceling effects of enviroment cards. I don't think that it can be done in case of companies returned by Snowstorm or items discarded by Drowning Seas, but in case of site treated as site of other type it is possible.Bandobras Took wrote: Offhand, can effects be canceled even after they are applied?

Perhaps the distinction wasn't clear.
There are cards that cancel other cards (in the name of Mordor cancels the Nazgul event), but Leaflock cancels the effect of the card, rather than the card itself.
If the effect was, say, tapping a character, when can you tap Leaflock to cancel the effect, and when is it too late to tap Leaflock to cancel the effect?

Discard Leaflock if his company moves to a site that is not in: Fangorn, Rohan, Gap of Isen, Wold & Foothills, Enedhwaith, Old Pûkel-land, Brown Lands, Anduin Vales, or Redhorn Gate.
This CRF entry at least explains what means "cancel the effects of one hazard" - whole event is discarded. Remaining question is (was?) timing.CRF, Errata(Cards), Leaflock wrote:Allows the canceling of one creature or the canceling and discarding of an event that
targets the company in question or an entity associated with that company.
May tap to give +1 prowess to another character facing an automatic- attack, or hazard keyed to his site.
Even if it is not clear such distinction exists (see texts of Noose of The Sea, Searching Eye). Some effects are permanent, some lasts by specified time. Elf tapped by New Moon does not untap automatically at the end of turn. Freehold is no longer trated as Borderhold after current turn.Bandobras Took wrote:Perhaps the distinction wasn't clear.
