Hi all,

New poster here. Got out all my MECCG cards that I bought years ago and tried to get a couple of games in, but ended up with lots of questions.

Thanks in advance for any help:

1. Challenge Decks: What is the point of the additional Wizard in the deck (i.e Alatar in the Saruman Deck)
2. Rescue Prisoners: Says "playable at a tapped site". Does it really have to be tapped. I was playing and had that in hand but no item, so I wanted to go there, and just play rescue prisoners
3. Cards like Elrond which allow you to keep more than 1 card in hand. - Does this mean you always discard / draw to 9 rather than 8?
4. Why are there some cards in the challenge deck that are just really confusing (I'm trying to use the challenge decks to teach people the game)

More questions later :)

1)2nd wizard only in sideboard, if same challangedecks play against each other.

2)Yes - its written on the card - so the site must be tapped - be careful only 2 MP (errata)

3)Yes - if elrond stays in rivendale you always draw to 9 cards.

4)Tell us the confusing cards  ....

Hi Paul! Join us on GCCG! There's always players around and most are very willing to play some teaching-games with you.
See you there :)

Installing the client is a bit different than you might be accustomed to, but this way you can update everything really easy!
Follow these instructions (thx Vastor):
========================================================================
1st) create 2 new folders named "trunk" the other "metw" in your windows explorer

2nd) download an SVN (shared version network) download client

windows users should stick with Tortoise SVN found here:

http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads

32 Bit TortoiseSVN-1.5.7.15182-win32-svn-1.5.5.msi
Installer

this one

if not using windows (using Linux or what ever) you should use Rapid SVN:

http://www.rapidsvn.org/download/release/0.9.6/

RapidSVN-0.9.6.exe
04-Mar-2008 00:00 4.0M

this one

3rd) install the download client and restart your PC

4th) get back to your 2 new folders (from above trunk & metw)

right click on the "trunk" folder and find the option SVN "checkout"

use this adress: https://gccg.servebeer.com/ccg/trunk

confirm (click yes/ok) all the way throught, in the end the folder will 102 MB)

User: ccg

PW: gcc

add these when asked for it.

5th) the download should now start (you can stopp it any time you just need to finish it before it will work)

once it is done, you can start whichever game you like to try by clicking on its xxx.bat

though you will not have sounds or pics for these go to step 6

6th) go back to your new "metw" folder do another (new checkout) using this adress:

https://gccg.servebeer.com/ccg/metw

this folder contains all pictures and sounds and is the way bigger folder in size (523 MB)

1) So if the same challenge deck plays against itself, and the other player gets his wizard out before you, you are left with the 1 'other' wizard in the sideboard. Seems a bit weak, and would never happen to me, since I only have 1 of each deck. Could you also bring it into the game and have it in hand at the end of the game to make the opponent lose a point in the council.

4) Well, there are a few. The challenge decks are all I have in terms of constructed, since I dont have any skill at making my own decks. However, I'm thinking of using the challenge decks as the base and then just taking out some of the cards with too much text that I cant really work out what they do.

Sarumans deck has Scroll of Isildur? Why, since there is no ring testing going on? Surely there is a better Greater Item.

Cards in Radagast sideboard: Forewarned is Forearmed, Glamour of Surpassing Excellance, Promptings of Wisdom. Anyone give me any clue as to when these should be used?

Whilst I'm here, I had another question.

5) Cards that sit in play (hazards or resources) which say something like "all sites with an automatic attack are at +1 prowess". Do all these types of things apply to all players no matter where the card is in play?

1- Wizards aren't a source of MPs so i am not sure that you can reveal it to reduce opponent's points

4- The only better greater items than Scroll of Isildur are: Orcrist, Wormsbane, Mithril-coat. The rest are hoard stuff or give too much corruption. Using Scroll of Isildur yourself is also a good protection against One Ring decks by denying it to your opponent.

Forearmed: Use it if you are facing a lot of Slayer and Assassins
Glamour of Surpassing Excellance: Use it if you need to discard stuff from your characters and your Marvels Told aren't enough, for example versus corruption decks
Promptings of Wisdom: Use it vs Roadblock decks, stuff that sends you back to your site of origin or tap your sites in play. It is a very important card, if you don't use it well a roadblock hazard can be very annoying.

5- Depending on the card, if such a card is played on a specific site, it will affect only that copy of the site, for example: Known to an Ounce
If its a card that affects all sites that fulfills certain requirements, then it will affect all of them, for example: Moon is dead

You may also reveal any marshalling point cards in your hand that are manifestations of cards that your opponent has in play. Each such revealed card reduces your opponent's marshalling point total by one.
Maybe to reduce MPs from Maia creatures (manifestations of Wizards).

Wizards are not marshalling point cards, though. So according to the rule you can't reveal them.
