Whilst Manuel is generally correct in what he says above, in that players asking questions about rules should be quoted the current, 'accepted' rulings, this isn't made easy by the fact that the rules and rulings surrounding playing characters are at best, ambiguous and illogical!! After all, why on earth do questions keep arising about them? No matter which way you look at it, there's simply no logical methodology to how it all pieces together. It's effectively one rule for one method or card and another rule for another...
How can regular players or new players possibly be expected to unravel the mysteries and ambiguities when some of the players with more experienced knowledge of the rules, are in the same boat! This isn't helped, I might add, by the poor quality of answers originally given in old ICE digests and some of the later digests quoted in this thread, which just gave one word answers.
Ultimately, this is why we're in the situation whereby simple regurgitation the same poor digests and rulings, etc, isn't solving the problem! They still don't make sense.
There needs to be a common sense approach to how this works, one where all the character playing rules and the character playing cards are all singing from the same 'logical' hymn sheet, or at the very least work from a sound reasoning.
