Did I get this right that I cannot play this card in a company vs company battle where i am the attacker.????
because i can only play cards that affect strikes?????
and only the defender can play cards that affect attacks???

The defender may take actions that affect the attack or any of the strikes.
The attacker may only take actions that affect individual strikes.

Playable on an attack. You assign all strikes of the attack regardless of the attack's normal capabilities and character status. +1 to all body checks by your characters resulting from the attack. ...some dozen Orcs that had laid motionless among the slain leaped to their feet...-LotRIII

"all strikes" are not "individual strike" without any doubts.

There are some restrictions concerning playing resources in CvCC and against automatic-attacks. Motionless Among The Slain cannot be played by attacker in CvCC and against automatic-attacks for these reasons.
In all other cases this card may be less or more useful.

I was thinking of putting this card in a deck that plays a lot of cannon fodder to take the attacks. Just choose your wounded tiny orc to take the dragon attack instead of the guy you want untapped would seem quite a useful ability to me.

You can play it as defender in CvCC.

This card can allow you to protect your characters. For instance when someone plays Cave-drake on you to pick off your weak guys you can assign the strikes to your buff characters instead. Or you can keep your untapped guys untapped by assigning strikes to your characters that are already tapped.
