A few days ago i had a meeting with friends and one of them was looking at a MTG website and i saw one thing that i thought it could be fun and could encourage people to play and it was the election of "Player of the Year".
Let's say we have a list of players who were National champions, World Champions (offline and online), Nations cup, European champions, etc. and then we have a voting on who was the player of the year.
Combined with some prize support for the winner (and maybe the second/third place as well) it could be really nice. What do you think?

generally i like the idea, probably since i am one of the few that likes to play competively.
however, i think at the moment we should rather focus on how to make playing more attractive to a majority of players.
if we focus too much on competion, a small number of players will be very happy, while many will feel excluded and thus will sooner or later be driven off.
still, it might be a good thing when combining it with other titles that could attract all sorts of players. like:
most creative player, rookie of the year, fairest players, ...
any idea about how we can find out who earns one of the titles?
