I know your opponent can't influence:
your avatar,
your Ringwraith follower,
an ally controlled by your avatar, or
an item controlled by your avatar.
This list is compiled from METW, MELE, and CRF.
However, I seem to recall that there was some lingering doubt over whether it was possible to influence any old follower your avatar (e.g., KutM Thrain).
Influence Rules (ugh)

Mikko pointed out to me on GCCG that in the CH-deck rules and the MEBA booklet, it says you can't influence the follower of an avatar (not just the rw-follower). While those are unofficial regarding influence rules (I think?!), it does make sense to have allies and followers in the same boat: why, as Mikko put it, should Tom Bombadil have less free will than Frodo?
Whaddaya think?

Has this been ruled on already? I thought I remembered seeing a ruling about this but I can't find it. Anyway, the MEBA rules summary says you can't influence the follower of an avatar. I'm not sure why we would say you could. Why would these rules be any less official?

MELE is considered the go-to rules set for starter rules, with the expansions merely supplementing. But ICE went and changed some of the standard rules in MEBA....
